The Great Hall in Swansea

Sectors: Structural
Applications: Lindapter Type LR clamp secures the main support beams, from which audio-visual kit is suspended.

Summary:

Contractors used Lindapter’s Type LR clamps to secure the main support beams to the structural I-beams of the £32m Great Hall at Swansea University. The Type LR clamp was chosen as it allows for onsite lateral adjustability which allowed the contractors to quickly slide the beams into position and then tighten with simple hand tools. For further convenience, the clamp self-adjusts to suit various flange thicknesses, which helped the installer to rapidly secure the sections without drilling or welding.

The contractors were also tasked with the installation of a walkway around the perimeter of the hall so that the sound and lighting technicians could easily gain access to change the equipment to accommodate the varying uses of the room.

Lindapter’s CE marked Type A clamps were used to secure the walkways. Like most Lindapter products, drilling or welding was not required, allowing people to walk underneath as the building work was being carried out.

Lindapter has been designing and manufacturing steel-to-steel connections since 1934. If there is not an off-the-shelf solution for your connection requirements, a customised solution can be designed and manufactured.
