Purple People Bridge

Sectors: Structural, Bridge
Applications: Securing a walkway structure

Summary:

The purple people bridge spans 2,670 feet across the Ohio River to connect Newport, Kentucky to downtown Cincinnati in the USA. Lindapter fixings were used to secure a permanent walkway in order to allow access for engineers to carry out repairs and maintenance along the entire structure. Lindapter Type LR clamps were specified because of their high strength capacity, adjustability and their ability to eliminate the need for drilling or welding on site. Lindapter’s extensive project experience gained since 1934 coupled with a range of independent technical approvals provided further confidence for the specifiers.

The installers benefited from the lateral adjustability of the clamps, which allowed a quick alignment of the steelwork before the clamps were tightened with basic hand tools to complete the installation. The Type LR clamps were particularly useful for this application because they adjusted to suit the various sized beams and slopes up to 15°. The simple connection method allowed for a convenient installation process without the need for drilling or welding, which allowed the contractor to complete the project on time, while ensuring that the steel’s protective coatings remained intact.
