ExxonMobil Refinery
Sectors: Structural, Oil & Gas
Applications: Pipe Supports
Summary: Lindapter Type LR fixings were used to install a new pipeline, running through a continuously operational refinery.
Upgrade works to the refinery required a new pipeline, spanning several thousand feet to be installed without any interference to production. A plan was drawn to run the new pipeline adjacent to existing piping, supported by cantilever beams already present. The design specified the addition of pipe guides to prevent any flexing from thermal expansion.
Welding was deemed highly undesirable due to inevitable disruption and possible complications in obtaining hot work permits. Drilling was dismissed as a potential fire hazard as this would generate zinc shavings from the hot dip galvanised beams.
Lindapter provided the ideal solution with the self-adjustable Type LR fixing, enabling the pipe guides to be installed without drilling or welding and with no interference to the refinery’s productivity. The flexible clamp maintains the bolt head in a 90° position preventing bending of the bolt shaft, whilst the saddle prevents the assembly from swivelling during tightening.
The Type LR’s ability to fit various beam thicknesses and slopes allowed the contractor to use one type of fixing across the entire length of the pipe run, for speed of installation and convenience.
